Why Mother? Why Mother? Why???
Virgin of Guadalupe
Mother of all Mothers,
Our Lady of the Americas,
Come, come, O Lady of our Heart.
We celebrate you with our Passion,
Our LOVE flows to You
Some of us crawl on our knees to You,
Coming to Your Basceaca for your annual 12/12 celebration.
From tiny villages all over Mexico we come,
We come in old vehicles—cars, trucks, tired buses, loaded with people
Praying, crying. some silent, all beseeching Your boon,
Some walk miles, and miles and miles.
We walk in front of your colorful flower floats
Our babies in hand, we come, we come
Why Mother? Why do we magnetize toward You?
Nothing stops our eternal streaming toward your Heart.
Why Mother? Why Mother? Why???
Who can understand our Passion for you?
Who knows that You answer all of our prayers
We are your children, calling you—crying out in our pain and in joy.
Beseeching You, O beautiful Mother,
Tender Mother of Our Group Soul,
Come, come, O Lady of our Heart.
Gathers us up like fragrant roses on Apparition Hill.
Scoop us up as Juan Diego’s bouquet,
Arrange us carefully in his mantle.
Instruct Juan to take us to the Bishop
Though obstacles block our way—
We can not stop, we can not deny You Mother
Juan carries us in his mantle, roses so fragrant, so sweet
Perfume of the Virgin fair, he comes before the bishop
Then You Dear Virgin, lets his mantle fall open.
Those men present, drop amazed to their knees,
Their eyes large with wonder and awe,
The roses do not fall from Juan’s mantle, They do not fall.
They are magically embedded into the cloth of Juan’s tulma.
Six hundred years later, Juan’s tulma still hangs in the bascelica
Behind the great alter it hangs silently--declaring Your Holy Miracle.
With flowers we come now, to remember Your Grace and Your Promise.
To release our sins for you gather us into the Flames of Your Sacred Heart.
O Virgin of Guadalupe, Mother--you know why we come to YOU!
